About our Young Leaders Programme

Our Young Leaders Programme unleashes the potential of Zambia’s brilliant but financially-disadvantaged youth, empowering them to drive change in their communities.

As Our Moon’s flagship programme, we aim to bridge the gap between high school and university, continuing to grow and develop outside of the classroom. For the poorest students, progressing to and completing university is not a guarantee even with outstanding grades as student loans don’t stretch far enough to cover all attendance costs at Zambian universities. Because of different levels of attainment between the Zambian education system and other countries, students struggle to compete for scholarships at international universities.

Due to a gap between finishing high school and starting university, students struggle to fill their time purposefully. Our Moon’s programme develops young leaders by giving them guided community projects, research and internship opportunities.

As a result, many struggle to reach their full potential, silently slipping back into the poverty cycle they’ve worked so hard to try to escape.

That’s why through our Young Leaders Programme, we transform our students into confident, courageous, curious, critical thinkers who stand out in university applications.

Out of our Young Leaders programme, our scholars have gone on to secure places at prestigious institutions across the globe, as well as kickstart initiatives in their local communities, set up their own NGOs, work in purposeful careers and undertake impactful internships.
